Frequently Asked Questions

What are Bio-Identical Hormones?

Bio-identical hormones are hormones derived from plants, such as soy or wild yams, and are designed to be structurally identical to the hormones produced naturally inside the human body. Each prescription varies by hormone: testosterone, estrogen and progesterone and can be formed into creams, gels, pellets, pills, etc. Each prescription is individually tailored to meet your body’s needs.

When is the right time to consider Bio-Identicals?

In general, your body’s natural hormones begin to decline after your mid-20s and hormone imbalance symptoms frequently present by your mid-30s. Men and women often start replacing hormones between the ages of 35 and 40. But there is no right or wrong time to start. If you are experiencing symptoms of hormone imbalance, it is best to determine if HRT is the correct choice for you. With our practice you will be guided through a detailed assessment that includes a thorough medical intake questionnaire, Hormone level blood work, other tests as needed and comprehensive discussion and review of the test results at your initial consultation.

What is Pellet Therapy?

Effective, convenient, long lasting and safe. These are just a few reasons why our patients prefer this specialized method of hormone replacement. Pellet therapy is a sustainable delivery method for Bio-Identical Hormones. The procedure is painless and is typically repeated Every 12-16 weeks. A pellet made of Bio-Identical hormones is inserted under the patient’s skin, usually on the outer part of the low hip. The pellets, which contain customized levels of estradiol or testosterone, are slowly metabolized over the course of three to four months, releasing the Bio-Identical hormone in much the same manner as the body’s natural hormones are secreted.

What can cause Low Testosterone?

Who should be tested for Low T?

1.  Erectile Dysfunction
2.  Low interest in sex or decreased sex drive
3.  Low sperm count
4.  Increased weight gain
5.  Decreased muscle size

What is a normal Testosterone level?

300-1000. most men will become symptomatic below 650

How long does it take to feel better?

Most patients begin feeling better within a few months of beginning the program, but some results may take a bit longer to achieve. You may begin to feel a difference within a matter of weeks, especially when it comes to sleep pattern, hot flashes, night sweats, irritability. Every patient has a different experience, and much depends on the type of treatment that is best suited for you. For example: Creams will take longer than pellets to get symptom relief. The end result is the same – a healthier, balanced life.

Effective results don’t happen overnight, they evolve over time. Remember, it took some time for you to lose balance of your hormones, so it will take your body some time to recover. Consistency and compliance every step of the way will improve your results.

What's the follow up?

Approximately one month after the initial insertion, you will have another blood test. We will review how you are progressing as well as discuss the results of that test with you and make necessary modifications. Typically, you can expect to feel relief of symptoms by this time. As symptoms begin to recur, usually in about 3-4 months, a new blood test will be ordered for the next pellet insertion based on your previous lab results and symptoms. We always monitor both your symptoms and your medical lab tests.
